But the godly will grow like palm trees and grow strong like the cedars of Lebanon. For they are transplanted into the Lord's house. They flourish in the courts of our God. Even in old age they will still produce fruit; they will remain vital and green.

Psalm 92: 12-15 (NLT)

Vetra Shockley

Meet our speaker Vetra Shockley

Vetra and her husband, Dwane are members of Gateway Community Church in Washougal, WA where they are both active in ministry. Vetra has served as Director of Women’s Ministries, in leading women’s small groups, mentoring and encouraging women of all ages. Currently she is involved in working with young single moms who have recently come to the Lord or are on their journey seeking Him.

Believing that God called her and her husband as a ministry team, Vetra has been a supportive partner and companion as a pastor’s wife during her husband’s 15 years in the Pastorate, 10 years as Director of Conservative Baptist churches in Washington and his 23 years as Executive Director with the NWCB Association. While in these ministries Vetra’s home was always open and her table always had room for more. As a special ministry to encourage pastors’ wives, Vetra edited a newsletter called ‘Prime Rib”. She has always been involved in hospitality, Bible studies and music. These experiences have opened many doors for discipleship, mentoring and lay counseling.

Vetra has always felt her greatest ministry was to love, encourage and serve her family and others. She worked in the public schools as a Staff Assistant working with children in remedial reading and language Arts. She and Dwane have a daughter and three sons, who along with their spouses are active in local church ministry and who have given them 11 grandchildren who love the Lord.
