After many weeks of deliberation over the state's guidelines for camps and large gatherings, we have decided to cancel Women's Camp this summer. This is not a decision we take lightly. We're so sorry for this loss, and we acknowledge the void this will leave in our summer, but we want to encourage you to engage in safe, meaningful community as often as you can in the months ahead.
A lot of our summer plans have fallen through. A lot of disappointment hangs in the air around us. It's good to mourn your losses, what you thought would be, and to be honest with what you're feeling. Yet we want to encourage you to release all that to God and grasp the hope we have in Christ. God has a unique purpose for this season. He will create such beauty out of these ashes. Seek the purpose God has for you in this bizarre time. Live with intention out of that purpose. And lean into the wonder of being held and cared for by God. These aren't just Christian platitudes, we truly believe we are called to be bright lights of hope within our communities, and that with God's help we can shine with genuine joy, no matter our circumstances.
Live with Purpose.
We've done a lot of brainstorming, and want to offer you the chance to get together in meaningful community with the women in your church, in groups of 25 or less. On the weekend Women's Camp would have been held, July 17-19, we will post a recording that will include an encouraging word from our MCs, Lindsey and Stephanie, music from our worship leader, Heather Carmichael, as well as a message from our speaker, Mary Liebert. Mary will also provide a study guide with questions for you to download, print out, and discuss with your groups. So, gather your women safely anytime during the weekend of July 17-19, in your homes or at your churches and tune into this taste of Women's Camp together! We sincerely hope this can be a sweet and rich time for your communities.
Here on the website, we are providing an opportunity to donate online toward the work that has already gone into Women's Camp and to thank Heather, Mary, and everyone involved in putting this together. You are under no obligation to give, but we would be so blessed by anything we receive.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support through this time.
Mary is passionate about equipping women to love the Word of God and to study it faithfully. She's been part of the women's Bible study at Hinson Baptist Church for over a decade as a teacher, writer, and facilitator. She is also engaged in ministry through discipleship, teaching Sunday school, and speaking at retreats and conferences. Mary is currently pursuing her M.A. in Biblical and Theological Studies from Western Seminary. She lives in Portland, OR with her husband Jeff and their three children.
Heather Carmichael is joining us this year to lead us in worship! She's from Albany, Oregon where she lives with her husband, James, and their two teenagers. She and her husband started The Grove in Albany 10 years ago with the vision of creating a place where lives are transformed by Jesus and by which the community of Albany would be blessed.
